To get readers to love your story, it is essential they love your characters. Let’s discover all the deep-dark secrets and personality quirks of your primary characters. Let’s explore how to bring your characters to life on the page through effective characterization. It’s a balance of dialogue, description, and giving your characters powerful choices to make, as well as complex interior lives.

Whether you have a new character you’ve dreamed up who doesn’t yet have a story or you have a cast of characters who inhabit your novel, you’ll leave with a host of insights about who your characters really are and what you need to do with them. We’ll look at character arcs as well as relationship arcs. You’ll learn a variety of creative activities that you’ll be able to use in the future when writing. Join us for a masterclass on all things to do with characters.

The workshop will be held at John’s house on the banks of the Eno River near downtown Hillsborough. A healthy lunch, coffee, and plenty of snacks will be provided. $150 (10 students max).
